April 28, 2022
Nassau County, Florida
On April 27, 2022, Christen Lovelady was arrested by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office and charged with five counts of felony cruelty to animals. The charges allege that Lovelady abandoned and left her animals to die when she was forced out of her home due to foreclosure. The animals that died in the home included three dogs and two snakes. Lovelady was booked into the Nassau County Jail and given a $50,000 bond.
The investigation was conducted by Nassau County Animal Cruelty Investigators Martin Pruitt and Jessica Stokes. Both Pruitt and Stokes are graduates of the American Animal Cruelty Investigations School with certifications in investigating crimes against dogs, cats, equine, livestock, and other domestic animals.
Lovelady is one of several arrests made for animal cruelty in Nassau County over the past year. This is the direct result of Nassau County Animal Service’s (NCAS) focus on office education and training.
NCAS is led by Director Tim Maguire who invests in his team’s safety, education, and performance by making training opportunities available for his staff. There always has been, and always will be, a direct relationship between officer training and officer performance in the field.
We are very proud of our officers, they can always be counted on to do a great job.
